Place markets in-play and horse race SP markets!
On November 5th this year, Betfair introduced an extra dimension for the trader by making the place markets at some horse races active AFTER the off. This is a new and exciting development but can the trader take advantage?
The place markets have, in recent times, become liquid enough for the trader to take advantage of. Layers like them because they offer low liability (favourites often trade below 1.5) for a good return. By making these markets available in running, Betfair have increased the opportunities for all and this can only be good news.
The markets available in running will initially be restricted to all British and Irish national hunt fixtures and time will tell if the trader can take advantage of them.
SP Markets
Another development is the hotly rumoured availability of the SP markets. 'SP' is known as the 'Starting Price' of a horse and is what the majority of regular gamblers have been betting on in your local turf accountant for many years.
At a recent gathering at the headquarters of Betfair, early details were given regarding the new markets and how they will operate. This is a summary and early overview:
- The SP markets will be a new and separate market within horse racing.
- From what we understand, betfair customers will bet on an 'uncertain' price as the SP obviously cannot be determined before the off.
- Will launch sometime in December.
We will have to wait and see if the introduction of this new market within horse racing will bring more people to Betfair and improve liquidity for the trader or if money will move from the favoured markets of the trader into the new SP markets thus making it more difficult for the trader. |
